A less harmful anesthetic for plastic surgery
Most people fear plastic surgery or any kind of surgery because of the risk that anesthesia poses. When going under general anesthesia it suppresses the normal throat reflexes that prevent aspiration, swallowing, coughing or gagging. To help prevent aspiration patients are usually asked not to eat for several hours prior and during the surgery a tube is inserted through the mouth to protect the lugs from the stomach contents entering the lungs. Inserting this tube present risk of its own because the insertion or removal of airways may cause respiratory problems such as the ones mentioned above and/or muscle spasms in the voice box, larynx or in the bronchial tubes. The insertion of the airways can cause the increase in blood pressure and heart rate.
